Tari Baris Gede to be listed on UNESCO

The Indonesia Ministry of Culture and Tourism is about to enroll Tari Baris Gede (Baris Gede Dance) from Bali as one of Indonesia’s heritage to the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). This is plan is to be executed within this year. This registration is done as an effort to protect the art of Balinese culture. As well as to avoid claims of other countries against Balinese dance.

The Indonesia minister of Culture and Tourism said that now the data gathering stage is done to collect historical proof of Tari Gede Baris. So that the recognition process of Tari Gede Baris will run smooth. Beside Tari Baris Gede, Indonesia will also try to list Tari Saman from Aceh and Angklung from West Java, said the minister. In addition several other dances from several regions in Indonesia are also planned to be submitted to UNESCO.
